Wellington Primary School

Wellington Primary School

The existing school was built in the 1920’s and is currently a one and a half form entry school with 360 pupils aged between 3 years and 11 years. The extension works will increase capacity to a two-form entry with two classes (60 children) in every group from Reception to Key Stage 1. The site is very compact and therefore the new works involve the construction of a three-storey extension on the side of the existing school, together with a single story nursery extension. Improved learning facilities will be created to provide an attractive environment fit for learning in the 21st Century.

The building has been developed and will continue to be developed in conjunction with Local / National Planning Polices and the London Plan to maximise the buildings sustainable design. Our approach is to address the key energy demands of the building, reduce these energy demands through passive measures where possible and then assess the most efficient sustainable solutions for the remaining energy required.

Steel frame construction with Metsec Walls and with brickwork and Camaru Timber Cladding, curtain walling and structural glazing.  Roof material is single ply membrane.  Internal floors are concrete on metal decking with a screed topping with a wet underfloor heating system.

The scheme incorporates low carbon technology through the incorporation of air source pumps to provide a heating source for the new extensions and the system is controlled by IBMS panel. Ducted heat recovery ventilation system is also installed.

Built to achieve BREEAM Very Good.
