The Ecclesbourne School English Block

This third successful project for The Ecclesbourne School comprised the demolition of the existing school building and a rebuild of a new 2 storey English Block and Theatre.

Enabling works comprised of the removal of asbestos prior to the demolition of the existing single-story English teaching block and temporary classroom Portacabins. Installation of temporary haul road and traffic management arrangements to safely move deliveries through the school grounds to and from the construction site.

The new 2 storey English Block comprises; 10 classrooms, 2 seminar rooms, toilets, store rooms, internal plantroom, AV gallery and an activity hall.

The new building was constructed using a structural steel frame founded on concrete bases. Blockwork panels were built from a concrete strip foundations spanning between the steel frame bases to form the internal walls of the building perimeter. Pre-cast Concrete planks were installed to form the floor at first floor level and the roof above the classroom areas of the building. The high level roof above the activity hall was formed using steel decking and acoustic liner sheets with a powder coated face to provide sound absorption and a finish within the activity hall. Pre-cast concrete stairs were installed to provide access between the ground and first floors.
