New HQ & Fire Station, Leicester

New HQ & Fire Station, Birstall

Construction of new three storey Headquarters Building for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Combined Fire Authority  along with a new two storey Fire Station together with fit out and associated external works including a small area of section 38 highways works.

The new headquarters has been designed to create an open environment which aims to encourage team working and allow teams to interact more freely. The building includes break out areas for less formal discussions, and fully functional conference and meeting facilities. The design is fully Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant including a lift. The building has also been designed to be environmentally efficient and so will have lower maintenance and running costs than their current headquarters building.

When considering the design of a new fire station the Service has to plan for the complete life of the building, and that involves anticipating how the Service may develop in the future. Such issues as the size of appliances, number of staff, and the duty system that staff will operate all have an impact on the design. The layout and facilities at the new station are the direct result of consultation with staff to ensure the design meets operational needs.

The living accommodation has been designed to ensure that it is self contained away from the main operational elements of the station. Facilities have also be designed to enable use by disabled individuals. The Birstall site will also include a new training house which has been designed with input from operational staff to ensure that maximum training scenarios can be accommodated.
